Siemens Canada Investing in Smart Grid Research with UNB

Siemens Canada - November 19, 2013

Siemens’ will invest up to $2.5M into academic research projects over the next five years in the form of funds, in-kind contributions such as software and equipment, as well as sponsorships and human resources. Siemens and UNB are assembling project teams for their first two projects and are developing NSERC funding proposals. The projects will focus on two elements of smart grid technology and implementation: Residential Demand Response and Load Shifting.

New Panel to Commercialize Alberta Post-Secondary Research

Alberta’s new institute to commercialize university research has appointed ten international experts, business people and academics to an organizing panel. The institute will be an independent entity that will facilitate work between researchers and private sector companies, will help find venture capital, and deal with issues such as intellectual property and royalties. All panel members, including panel chair Daniel Roos from MIT, are involved in similar agencies across the globe. The panel will consult business, the research community and post-secondary colleges and universities to see what is needed and should have recommendations on how to proceed, ready in a matter of weeks.
